Yuri Kuper

Biography

Yuri Leonidovich Kuper was born in 1940 in Moscow. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Graphic Arts of Moscow State V. I. Lenin Pedagogical Institute. In 1969, he joined the Union of Artists. In 1972, he emigrated to Israel, from where he moved to London.

In 1983, he received British citizenship and worked in France, the USA, Italy, and Russia. Since 2016, he has been living and working in Russia and is a citizen of the Russian Federation.

The artist has conducted more than 50 personal exhibitions in the most prestigious galleries in the world: Galerie Claude Bernard in Paris and New York, Galerie Jan Krugier, Dietesheim & Cie in Geneva, Serge Sorokko Gallery in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris and London, Yoshii Gallery in New York. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Toulon Museum, Sainsbury Centre in Norwich, Bouquinerie de l'Institut in Paris, Ueno no Mori and Chokoku no Mori museums in Japan, as well as galleries in Oslo, Stockholm, Jerusalem, and Berlin, exhibit the paintings and graphic works of Yuri Kuper and his sculptures and objects.

Yuri Kuper works on the creation of jewelry collections, interior projects implemented in France and Russia, books, installations, sculptures, and volumetric paintings. Yuri Kuper is the author of the book "Moscow Still Life" (New York, 1975). In the play "Twelve Pictures from the Life of an Artist" at the Moscow Art Theater, Kuper acted as playwright and set designer. In the play "Boris Godunov" at the Bolshoi Theater, directed by A. Sokurov, Yuri Kuper is the production designer.
